  • September Blue

    September Blue
    Lavish fields
    ripe with corn and harvest.
    I lie in the cornfields
    that are bowing their heads to the wind
    growing colder each passing day
    as we race towards the Equinox.
    Looking up into the deep late summer sky
    two ravens circle in flight
    black wings in blurry motion.
    In nearby tree, the apple fruit;
    crimson colored symmetry
    douses in sweet perfume.
    The dream of fall
    echoed in the scurry of chipmunk and squirrel
    is found within as well.
    My eyes full of starlight
    I watch the midnight skies
    till chill sets within me,
    and the song of the cicada lures me to sleep.

  • Left Behind

    You've moved on;
    Devouring thunderheads in a summer sky
    They will only last a moment
    Before birdsong begins once again.
    But why does it still hurt;
    Broken blade buried deep within.
    Though I have not heard your sweet voice in ages?

    I’m left in the dust
    Of your vapor trails
    With only pictures to tell unspoken stories.
    Wishes spoken to the blades of grass
    Would not matter much.

    Still your eyes they speak to me
    Beyond the grasp of time
    Lingering pain of nostalgia
    Still holding fast my soul.

    I must let go of these invisible chains
    They only keep me down.
    It seems long ago you broke them anyway
    And I’m still holding the fragments
    Of your promises. 9/10/09

  • August Ode

    “August Ode”

    Oh August with your blowing hair

    Laden with the scents of the harvest;

    Emerald for your bemused eyes

    Watching spry rabbits hop through

    The freshly mown grass.

    Your hands busy painting

    The rich canvas filled with Earthen colors;

    Azure for the endless late Summer sky,

    Mauve for the larkspur hiding behind the fence,

    White for a barn caressed by loving trees.

    Oh and who could forget the gentle kiss

    Of forest and saffron for treetops.

    Your form blooms deeply Life

    Rolling fields waiting for delicate fingers

    To collect your essence

    Storing it away in myriad jars of memory.

    Perhaps to rekindle your

    Dance-songs of Summer

    While in the deepest dark of December. (8/7/09)

  • Junetide

    “June-tide”
    The lands now
    Flowing with the rich cloak
    Of emerald and clover
    And the occasional bloom
    Of violet and daffodil.
    A summer’s whisper
    Upon the air

    Awakens the sleeping faeries
    With their thrumming wings a glow
    Oberon sits within the pansies
    Weaving them for a crown
    For his beloved
    Still dancing in the newly blessed wood
    With her court of ladies adorned in lilac
    And feathers of bluebirds

    She’ll return at sunset for sure
    To share the sweet nectar
    Of the sun’s golden rays
    And early summer’s fruit
    Still lingering with life from the vine

    And where is Pan?
    Ah, he is  playing sweetly in lush groves
    With his silver flute invoking mischief
    To creature near and far
    He sits upon soft heather
    Eagle feather woven through sable locks
    Smiling in-between melodies
    To a wandering dove

    Ah June!
    With your magic woven sweet,
    Gentle kisses upon both house and home
    You come bursting with life.
    Welcoming all into your radiant arms
    Of peerless blue skies
